Male Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills: What Men Are Getting Done and Why

By Dr. Michael K. Newman  ·  June 28, 2026  ·  8 min read

Male cosmetic surgery has grown faster than any other segment of plastic surgery for the past decade. In my Beverly Hills practice, the proportion of male patients has grown steadily year over year — and the nature of what men are seeking has changed too.

Men used to come in almost exclusively for rhinoplasty or gynecomastia surgery. Now the range is much broader: eyelid surgery, chin augmentation, liposuction, facelift. The through-line isn't vanity — it's competition. Men in their 40s and 50s are competing with men in their 30s in a professional landscape that increasingly values a vital, energetic appearance.

Here's what men in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles are actually seeking — and what they need to understand about each procedure before a consultation.

Gynecomastia Surgery: The Most Common Male Procedure

Gynecomastia — excess breast tissue in men — is more common than most people realize. It affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men at some point in their lives, though for most it resolves on its own. For men with persistent, significant breast tissue development, surgery is the only reliable solution.

The cause matters for treatment planning:

The distinction matters because it determines the technique. A patient with true gynecomastia who undergoes liposuction alone will be disappointed — the firm tissue under the nipple doesn't respond to suction. Proper evaluation includes a physical exam to distinguish between the two presentations.

The Procedure

For true or mixed gynecomastia, surgical excision removes the glandular tissue through a small incision along the lower edge of the areola — the scar is well hidden at the border between the areola skin and surrounding skin. Liposuction is often combined to contour the surrounding chest.

For pseudogynecomastia, liposuction alone (often VASER or power-assisted) can achieve excellent results without excision incisions.

Recovery

Most patients wear a compression garment for 2 to 4 weeks. Desk work resumes within 4 to 5 days. Exercise restrictions last 4 to 6 weeks. Final result is typically visible at 3 to 4 months as swelling fully resolves.

Cost in Beverly Hills

Gynecomastia surgery in Beverly Hills typically ranges from $5,000 to $9,000 depending on technique, severity, and whether liposuction is combined with excision.

Rhinoplasty for Men

Male rhinoplasty is technically similar to female rhinoplasty, but the aesthetic goals are meaningfully different. Men generally want a nose that looks masculine and defined — not smaller or more refined in the way women often seek. A reduction that would look excellent on a woman can look feminized on a man if it's too aggressive.

The specific differences in male rhinoplasty goals:

"The biggest mistake in male rhinoplasty is applying female aesthetic goals to a male face. The goal is a nose that looks right for that man's face — stronger, cleaner, but still distinctly male."

Cost for rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills with Dr. Newman: $12,000 to $18,000 depending on complexity and whether revision work is involved.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Upper and lower eyelid surgery is the fastest-growing male cosmetic procedure in my practice. The reason: hooded upper eyelids and under-eye bags age a man's appearance significantly — and they read as fatigue and diminished vitality in professional contexts.

Male blepharoplasty differs from female in one important way: the eyebrow position. Men's eyebrows naturally sit lower and flatter than women's. Removing too much upper eyelid skin on a man whose hooding is partly caused by brow descent will produce an unnatural, feminized result and may cause difficulty with eyebrow expression. The evaluation at consultation addresses whether the upper eyelid issue is true excess skin, brow ptosis, or a combination.

Recovery is 10 to 14 days before most men are comfortable in public. Final results emerge over 6 to 8 weeks. Cost: $5,000 to $8,500 for upper and lower combined.

Male Facelift

Men in their 50s and 60s seeking facelift surgery have different anatomical considerations than women. Male skin is thicker and more vascular (which affects healing), and the presence of a beard requires extreme precision with incision placement — pulling the beard line forward or creating visible scars in the beard area is a disqualifying complication in male facelift.

Experienced surgeons who perform male facelifts routinely place incisions carefully within or just in front of the hairline, running behind the ear in a position that stays hidden within beard growth. The pull vector in male facelifts also tends to be more horizontal (less vertical) to maintain a masculine aesthetic.

Recovery for male facelift: 10 to 14 days before returning to office settings, 3 to 4 weeks before most social events. Cost: $18,000 to $28,000 depending on complexity and whether neck work is included.

Chin Augmentation and Jawline Contouring

Chin implants are among the most popular male procedures because the impact is significant and recovery is short. A well-proportioned chin projects competence and strength — and a recessive chin can undermine an otherwise strong face.

For men, extended anatomic implants that add lateral jaw definition alongside projection are particularly popular. The goal is a defined jawline, not just a forward chin. Chin augmentation is frequently combined with neck liposuction in male patients to address both the chin projection and submental fullness simultaneously.

Cost: $5,500 to $8,000. Recovery: 5 to 7 days for desk work, 2 to 3 weeks for most social settings.

Liposuction for Men

Male liposuction differs from female in target areas and technique goals. Men most commonly seek liposuction for:

Abdomen / Flanks

The most common male target. VASER or power-assisted lipo can achieve significant definition in men with good skin tone.

Chest / Pecs

Often combined with gynecomastia excision, or standalone for pseudogynecomastia and soft chest fat.

Submental (Chin / Neck)

Highly effective for neck definition. Often combined with chin augmentation for comprehensive lower-face improvement.

Back / Love Handles

Stubborn areas that resist diet and exercise. Men with good muscle definition underneath see dramatic improvement.

Male abdominal liposuction can include high-definition techniques (etching) for patients with underlying muscle tone who want visible abdominal definition. This is a more aggressive technique with a longer recovery and requires a specific anatomical candidate — not every patient is appropriate.

What Men Should Know Before Consulting

A few things that come up repeatedly in male consultations:

Consultations at Dr. Newman's Beverly Hills Practice

About 30 percent of my practice is male patients — a proportion that has grown significantly over the past five years. Consultations for male patients include the same 3D imaging used for female patients, allowing us to demonstrate projected results before any commitment is made.

The most important thing a prospective patient can do before a consultation is be specific about their concerns and realistic about their goals. The consultation is a conversation, not a sales pitch.
